Getting right to the chase:

Choosing to start therapy is a wise decision for anyone who is interested in modifying their way of life and/or relationship(s).

Therapy is a major gateway to finding peace, contentment, and understanding; and furthermore, to finding connection with your authentic self. The way I see it - working with a therapist is no different than partnering with a personal trainer. While the latter is in support of your physical health goals, the former is in support of your mental health and emotional health goals.

Therapy is also a key treatment option for many mental health illnesses and disorders. Anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and emotional dysregulation are some of the common mental health conditions that respond well to psychotherapeutic treatment. Counselling and psychotherapy can also be applied to stress and anger management, self-esteem, compulsive and impulsive behaviour, and interpersonal conflict.

Truth be told, the process process is not always easy - and certainly not an easy one to start. It can be tough making the decision to allow yourself to become vulnerable. It can be tough finding a therapist that you feel you click with. It can be tough trying to convince yourself that it's your time to do it. In spite of this, once you do, doors of many possibilities can become available to you.

By participating in therapy, you can:

  • increase your sense of self

  • learn to take responsibility

  • generate self-esteem

  • create self-awareness

  • find/create balance

  • establish boundaries

  • become more assertive

  • connect with your vulnerabilities

  • learn to communicate more effectively

  • explore your habits of thinking - and learn to challenge those that are unhelpful

  • talk to someone in confidence, without worry of judgment

  • re-connect with your authentic self

  • initiate change within your intra- or inter- personal relationship(s)
