I, too, remember the days of August as a kid and eventually a university student. Bittersweet may be the term to describe the experience. In any case, the transition into a new chapter comes with ambiguity, novelty, and change.
Self-care is always important; and, should be something that's in motion at all times. However, transitional periods often require a degree of "step-up" in said self-care. Some of the things that may be worth paying attention to during your back-to-school transition include:
Priorities
It's only normal for our priorities to shift when we are away from a structured routine. Friends, sports, and other recreational activities may have become your priority throughout the summer season. While these items should continue to be a part of your life and contribute to your wellness, they will need to be re-shifted in such a way to allow space for other responsibilities such as homework.
Time management
The return to school comes with a significant time commitment. Anywhere between 3 and 9 hours a day may now be allotted to class or campus time; never mind the added time for homework and projects. There are only so many hours in a day - 24 to be precise.
Sleep hygiene
Going to bed well after midnight because you had to finish your homework? Sound familiar? It is all too common! This one goes hand-in-hand with time management. Ensuring quality sleep is imperative not only for your overall well-being but also to make your return-to-school worth it! Sleep hygiene involves the duration of sleep, quality of sleep, as well as bedtime routines.
