This image is a great representation of what one's boundaries look like, for many. They are sort of there, but, are rather frail; and, have quite a few loop holes.
Boundaries are important when it comes to both physical and emotional health. By setting them, we are showing and providing ourselves the respect that we deserve. This in itself is empowering. By not having boundaries, or by allowing them to be weak and pliable, we are allowing greater opportunity for discomfort.
Unfortunately, setting boundaries is not always an easy process. It can feel overwhelming, unnatural, and even rude. This is largely influenced by a modern-day society in which people are used to instant gratification, and in which people-pleasing is highly prevalent. Despite the difficulty that may come with setting boundaries, it truly is an imperative component to living happily, contently, and healthily. And, like most things, once you get a feel for it, you become better at it.
